Idea 34 – Looking our for our local area

Walks Over the last 4 weeks our local environment has become our playground. How lucky we are to live in an area that despite being well populated; still has lots of green areas. On Saturday evening we took great pleasure in spotting two male ducks enjoying a good feed on the small pond along the Common East. The evening bird song along that stretch was fantastic. I bet many Bradley Stoke folk have never explored their local area so much. We certainly are exploring lots of new roads, paths and cut through on our hour trips around the town. Fly Tipping Unfortunately fly tipping has increased significantly across the country…

Idea 32 – Stay home and rediscover your garden 🌱🌷🌳

If you had told me when I was writing Idea 4 that I would have car journeys down to under 1 most weeks I would have been quite pleased that my new bike idea was working. I wondered this week how many of the ideas I have accidentally done during this period of isolation. Having less food waste and make do and mend have definitely been put into action. Take a look below and see how many you have tried. We have also been trying a bit of seed growing with the little ones and can now say we have carrots and radishes sprouting. Thanks to Marks and Spencer for providing…

    Idea 31 – Earth hour

Tonight between 8:30pm and 9:30pm we were going to be celebrating Earth Hour on Jubilee fields. Instead we will be staying in our houses and saving lives in doing so. Earth hour normally sees people across the world turning off their lights and either spending an hour in candle light or heading outside to enjoying the night. Spending an hour focusing on the wonder of nature and it’s amazing beauty. So tonight between 8:30-9:30 maybe hold your own garden Earth Hour. Turn off all the lights inside the house and head outside. Do a spot of star gazing. We saw the international space station going .over last night. Maybe do…

    Idea 28 – Earth Hour – And it’s free!

On Saturday 28th March 8:30-9:30pm we will be out on Jubilee field celebrating Earth hour. The idea is that the lights (and anything else) are off at home and we get outside for some fresh air and appreciate the magic of the nighttime with some fun activities. Apparently the queen even joins in each year with Earth hour. To celebrate Bradley Stoke style we will be on the green by the Jubilee centre. There will be star gazing and naming. Night time eco stories by torch light Glow in the dark bowling A fire for toasting marshmallows and creating s’mores Lantern trail Hot chocolate (bring you own reuseable mug) and…

Idea 27 – Greta comes to Bristol

On Thursday I looked at the weather, bus time tables, hire bike apps, police statements and Google maps to decide if I would go to the Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate. I have never been to something like this before and I am as far from a militant as you can get but this time it felt right and possible. Thanks to London for not being suitable and to the person who said let’s do Bristol instead. Bristol will get on board. You bet we did! Also thanks to my child’s nursery for unintentionally doing his settling in session today so I could spend 3 hours walking Bristol’s streets. Thinking…

Idea 25 – If everyone does something imagine what could be achieved.

The group has been busy with lots of eco friendly ideas this week. From plant based mega bricks to returning cosmetic bottles there are so many little things that I’m more aware of thanks to the members of this group. Lorna has also been updating the website to keep any ideas easy to find. Keep the links coming and share with us all. Well done to Marie Harrison on setting up the Bradley Stoke Eco Shop! Keep us posted on the development and if any one is hosting a party and needs supplies think of Marie first. This week is the South Glos Climate emergency community engagement at UWE hosted by Lucy…
